Privacy Policy

This policy explains what FIFtax collects, what stays in your browser, and what is sent to third-party services when you use the site.

Information We Collect

Website usage information

Like most websites, we may collect basic usage information such as browser type, language preference, referring site, pages viewed, and the time of a visit. This helps us understand which pages are useful and what needs improving.

We use Enoki Analytics and Google Analytics to understand broad site usage, such as page views, referrers, browser details, and where people may be getting stuck. Those providers process analytics data under their own terms.

Contact details

We only collect your name, email address, and message if you send them to us through the contact form. Contact form messages are processed through Mailgun so we can receive and reply to them.

Calculator data

Financial information entered into the historical FIF calculator, including opening values, transactions, and closing values, is saved in your browser's local storage. That lets you close the page and come back to the calculation later.

The calculator fetches exchange rates directly from Frankfurter using the dates and currencies needed for your calculation. The full holdings, quantities, prices, and values you enter are not sent to FIFtax servers for calculation.

Broker export files (Sharesies, IBKR, Hatch)

If you use the direct file import feature to upload a Sharesies CSV, an IBKR Activity Statement, an IBKR dividend CSV, or Hatch CSV exports, that file is read and processed entirely within your browser using JavaScript. The file contents are never uploaded to FIFtax servers or any other server. The data is used only to populate the calculator fields in your browser session and, if you choose, is then saved to your browser's local storage.

Because processing is client-side only, FIFtax has no access to the portfolio values, transaction history, or account details in any file you import.

Using a shared computer?

Clear your calculator data using the "Clear All" buttons, or clear your browser's site data for FIFtax.nz after use. Otherwise, someone using the same browser may be able to see what you entered.

How to clear your data:

  • Use the "Clear All Transactions", "Clear All Opening Values", or "Clear All Closing Values" buttons within the calculator
  • Go to your browser settings and clear site data or cookies for fiftax.nz
  • Use private/incognito browsing mode if you prefer not to save any data locally

If you contact us, we use your details to respond to that message. We do not sell your personal information.

Data Security

We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. While no online transmission is 100% secure, we take reasonable precautions to protect any information we hold.

The site may use cookies or similar browser storage for analytics and site functionality. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings.
